2 distinct different kinds of businesses and living occupied the underground tunnels during Pendleton's past. This early one had businesses such as this very successful Empire Meat Company which succeeded in the production of meat when refrigeration was not yet available on a large scale. The tunnels under the city were much cooler and helped to make this business prosper.
